Dear Friends,
If your club hasn't gone on record with Congress opposing PAWS, why is that?
Do
your leaders need more information before they decide to protect your
interests?
I believe this author-investigator has put her finger on why it is that AKC,
AVMA and HSUS are so determined to pass Senator Santorum's S1139 (PAWS), and
it
has nothing to do with "puppy mills" or animal welfare. It's about PROFITS!
The "odd-trio" want to pass separate federal legislation requiring the
mandatory
microchipping of all U.S. pets. It's already established AVMA policy for
adopted
cats and the animal rights groups have advocated such a requirement for
years.
AKC, AVMA and HSUS need each other to pass the necessary language through
the
Senate Agriculture Committee. It's very unlikely such bill would become law
if
any one of them opposed it. The linked article understates the cost of
implanting most microchips and doesn't include some minor supporting pieces
of
evidence about AKC's huge potential $$$ windfall, but it deserves your
careful
reading.
If PAWS is defeated, this "odd-trio" may think again about a stealth attack
on
our wallets and Personal Privacy.
