I totally agree, Pauline.  Back in the 90s our own BIS Select CH
Plainbrownwrapper v Jada-Edan (Punky) could do it in both rings.  Yes, we
had a wonderful handler, "The Gentleman" Henry Dancosse, who was lesser know
in the all-breed ring at the time.  I did very little advertising--I was a
school teacher.  (I did take on a good co-owner for about a year.)  The
first time Punky went BIS there had been NO advertising at all and she did
it on her first time shown as a champion.  Before she finished, 2 of her 3
majors came from specialty shows.  I have and always will believe that a
good dog can do it in BOTH rings.  She was ranked #3 in 1995, being shown as
a special from July through August, going Select at the National that fall.
Being ranked and select were great honors, but the greatest times TO ME were
the thousands of dogs Punky defeated during her all-breed career.  (AND she
was a house dog.)  Thanks for the memories, Punky.
