I've used them in the bottom of my puppy run - I had a different experience
with mine though - my puppies DID try to eat them. Chewed the edge off of one
side. We have them up here at TSC too - they run about $36 on sale.

Since cold is not a big factor in South Texas, we were concerned about
softening the concrete. I bought big, thick rubber horse mats at Tractor
supply.
They are 4 ft X 6 ft and must weigh close to 80# each. But they are thick
rubber, they stand up to high pressure hosing, and best of all, the little
devils don't try to eat them.
I buy them at tractor supply. I think they are $85 each, but sometime they
do go on sale, and they seem to last forever. And no, I've never noticed
them smelling, even in 95 degree heat.
