Sarah, this was a very for real excellent post. Thank you for sharing those
very true thoughts in our GSD world. Since I’ve had wGSDs since 1967 & only one
blk/tn I feel at many times rejected because I just don’t have the correct coat
color. But yet, I’ve made SO many friends in this GSDCA that I’m still here
with them. Many times I feel I’m back in high school with all the political
attacks. I love GSD everything that’s why I’m still hanging on. I’ve been with
the GSDCA for 11 years now. I loved the breed since a little girl. And I love
the breed ring as much as anything else these talented dogs can do. Yes, we

This is my last post as I have 2 dogs to go train! The ONLY way this club is
going to survive is to get the performance people back. I'm not going to focus
on the past but look towards the future.
I think some performance people would warm up to the futurities if there was an
educational event, TC, and evaluations. It would help bridge the schism between
the two worlds. And...it would help raise money for the club.
And, sometimes people just need to be in the same place to start building
conversation and understanding.
The show world is losing money because the old crew is dying off, the
performance people have been alienated, and the new people find the show world
attitude of "our way or highway..just deal with it" to be quite annoying.
But, I think there are tons of GSD owners out there who are not GSDCA members.
We need to bring them in!! We need to think outside the box and innovate.
Last year, I begged for the Review to truly represent the breed with more
articles and information on things outside of conformation. The Review should
speak for all shepherd owners! They are genuinely trying and I truly appreciate
and respect their attempts! Let's keep this moment going....
I think we should ditch the Futurity to Nationals ticket and take back the
Futurities and make them our own. I would LOVE performance people to see a good
conformation dog and say... wow...I guess they can do performance events and
conformation people to say...wow..the performance dogs have better type than I
thought! Let's support each other and put the dogs back as our priority! We are
a community and we should stand united!
So, shows are for showing and futurities should be to showcase our bloodlines,
get more educated, be evaluated, and make and renew friendships. We are opened
them up to non-members...here is OUR chance to make magic! Sarah
