Sitting back and reading this topic for many days now, I just had to add my 2
cents. If anyone remembers my beautiful solid black dog "Storm", one would
think that he was dyed. Storm had to have the thickest, plush coat I have ever
seen on a black dog. Storm was a Sel. Ch. Steigerhaus Bo Jackson son with a
German Mom. I just can't imagine how to dye a dog as I have always been
blessed with dogs with wonderful pigment. Storm has been gone for almost 3
years now and I have yet to see a solid black with a coat as thick as his.
People would always ask what "supplements" I gave him to enhance his coat. What
I think they meant was, "what dye did I use". Heck, if I dyed him, he
certainly wouldn't have had that little white spot on his chest. When you
hugged Storm if felt like you were hugging a big black bear.
Storm was the 4th Veteran Dog at the 2005 National, so I'm sure his picture is
still on the PC website. He truly was a gorgeous black dog with no added
measures taken. Just ask Paula Cooke.
I guess it all boils down to what your "inner self" tells you to do. Me, if I
can't win with a dog on his or her own merits and without playing "games", I
guess I won't play at all. It just amazes me how mean people can be. How you
can't congratulate the winners whether you agree with the judge or not is just
totally RUDE!
I guess that's why I haven't shown in the GSD ring since I lost Storm. I have
now switched to the Belgian Malinois ring and if you think the GSD ring is bad,
come on over to this playing field where there are only a few breeders and so
the competition is generally the same in the Specials class. At least in GSDs
there are more dogs to compete against.
