This happens all the time. there are some people out there that look for
domain names about to expire and they purchase them as soon as the domain
becomes available. then they want to charge you exhorbitant amounts to
purchase the domain name back. I had a friend who this happened to after at
least 10 years of having that domain name. he told the people who bought it
to stick it, and then changed his to the same thing only added a .net. If
.net doesnt work, then try .org, or any other of those suffixes. the trick
to keeping it from happening is to keep track of when your domain name
expires and then make a payment for the name about a month before it is due.
On a side note.... when this happened to my friend, he also purchsed every
other suffix he could think of therefore he beat them at their own game.
