I will buy that (registered breeders) it sure beats what we have !! A good way
to start separating our membership and get the really committed to join the
"Prestigious Registered Breeders" group.
It is a tough move especially to many who like to breed with just pre-lim
x-rays to determine later that
that the animal didn't clear OFA. Or later came up cripple There is a valid
medical reason why the OFA group
will not accept x-rays until the animal is 2 years old.
Charlie I think you are on to something. Obvious we will never get everyone to
agree on a particular code.
Some folks will never sign a code of any kind anyway. They are our "free
spirits".
But there are I believe enough of us to step up and sign a code that has teeth
and penalties for transgressors. I believe our top breeders will be the first
to step up and sign. If a majority of the membership signs, then we have cause
to make it mandatory.
Make it voluntary to begin with and then lets count heads.

Jamie/ Tony,
Along with a good review of all of our ethics policies, and any necessary
changes made, we should look at other ways to gain new members and make any GSD
club desirable to join and support. A few months ago, I posted a suggstion that
we create a designation titled "Registered Breeder". I was thinking along the
lines of a "Registered Breeder" being some one who is a member of the AKC, a
member of the GSDCA, and a signer of the new and improved Breeder's Code of
Ethics. It should be prestigious,with the possibility of loss of that prestige
for violations of the various rules and regs that go along with being a
member/breeder. I think the key is that it must be an honor to participate and
a desirable certification to possess. Who would want the shame of being
stripped of their "Registered Breeder" certificate and all that would entail.
Perhaps creating levels of achievement that spur interest, generate positive
activity, and offer various ways to recognize and honor past and
future pillars of this wonderful breed. Do we have a Hall of Fame?
