Most bi's I see are not that dark, tan legs, tan on the cheeks, under the
tail , tan on the chest, the quintessential "dobie' markings. The true
blacks
I see horses or dogs, do not have tan or brown or variations in between
toes, or on flanks or face, they are black...not fading with time. A
thoroughbred or Arab with brown on the face or flanks or legs , no matter how
little, is
not black , but a seal brown or "black bay" . A dog with tan or red or
brown on his legs , feet or face is not black but very dark bi color or dark
black and tan. A true genetic black is non fading, tan on the legs no matter
how
dark, is tan, not a variation of black. The dog therefore is not a true
black . Tan will not express itself in a true black of any species, at any
age,
unless it was there in the first place. You cannot have a color for which
there is no genetic expression, no gene. If there is tan, red or a variation,
the gene however muted, was there to begin with.
That is why TRUE blacks can be so hard to come by. In horses , or dogs.
With age, the tan or red shows through indicating that the animal was not a
true
black as thought early on, but rather a derivation of dark bi color, or in
horses seal brown or black bay. Sunburning not withstanding.
