We lost our new champion Masstana's Just in Case on Friday. Casey was just
2 years and 6 months old. On Thursday he was playing normally with our
other
dogs, ate well, and when I brought him in for the night, he was feeling
great, ran into his crate and turned around waiting for his cookie. A
little
later we heard him throw up his cookies and some food, let him out and he
piddled. Came back in and seemed ok. Was resting comfortably so after an
hour of
watching him Nancy went to bed again. I had a golf game at 7:30am so I
left,
everything normal. When Nancy went down to let the dogs out, Casey was
lethargic and she called the vet. Took him down. By 3:30pm he was dead.
Died
in our arms as we were getting ready to put him down. His intestines were
being destroyed by bacteria. We believe it was Toxic Gut Syndrome. Our
vet
whom we have used for over 30 years had never heard of it. Our
understanding is
that once the symptoms are manifest, it is too late. Such was the case
here.
Casey was so young. A champion at just over two years old. OFA Excellent.
And had bred a flipping and turning maiden bitch with no problem.
Everything you want in a bright young star. Now he is gone. Don't know
why, or what
could have caused such a massive infection. We are devastated. So sad.
