Also a problem is that the little dogs are being shipped out of Southern CA to
other states, leaving behind the larger dogs and older dogs. This can also
give a false impression of how many dogs of certain breeds (mixed or not) are
in the shelters. The GSD rehoming organizations ARE overloaded, but since GSDs
are the 4th most popular dog in AKC registrations, it would be reasonable to
see a larger population of them in one of the most populous areas in the
country.
