I have read with interest the discussions on movement and must say I post infrequently but must contradict the statement made by a Judge recently on the movement of a German Shepherd being cat like. This was thought by this individual to be worthy and correct. I respectfully disagree completely!!! The German Shepherd, as we all know, is a trotting animal and as such has endurance and overall dryness and hardness. The athletic ability comes from proper structure for long term endurance. The cat, large and small, is NOT a trotter!! The cat is a sprinter and as such is a galloper. The cat is not dry and hard but is soft and loose with great flexibility over it's back which is made for sprinting. Watch them move and it's very easy to see. We often hear Judges comment that the back was so stable that a glass of water would not spill if placed on that animals back. Not on a cat!!! We all learn and I felt that this post was necessary so that people new in the Breed would not get an incorrect impression of what is correct according to our Standard as well as the rest of the world's Standard(and they really are almost the same).
