Darned work today really interferred with me writing my story!!! I had to wait until I got home!! C course is not being offered in St. Louis this year at the National. Instead of skipping it altogether, the GSDCA held a 'National' C course trial in Washington this past weekend. Jack & I flew out to compete. We weren't the only ones from the eastern time zone, 3 other dog & handler teams flew west as well. On Saturday, Eunice Gerloff from TX was the judge for the 3 advanced & 2 intermediate entries. Jack & I were the first ones in. Being first is sorta stressful. Being 2nd is better... as you get to see how the sheep are doing without actually running your dog. ;-) I guess it didn't matter as Jack ended up with first place in the class with a score of 83 (out of 100). The 83 was also good for Reserve High in Trial overall. 2nd place in advanced was CH Sea Crest's Heart of Gold HS, "Nomi". The score earned Nomi the High Scoring Champion award & Herding CH points. >> In a side note... since the AKC herding program began in 1990 there has not been a single dual Champion GSD. Not ONE. Other breeds have them by the buckets full. CONGRATS & best to Carol & Nomi as they boldly go where no GSD has gone before! The 3rd qualifier out of the advanced class was a Ch HX Bouvier named Jesse. In intermediate, both entries qualified, Ronda's Dayglyn's Picture Perfect CD, HS, "Leica" finished her HI title. (Leica is a Dallas daughter.) Karen's dog "Sassy", Von Weiden's Single Shot moved up to HI, just finishing her started title the previous weekend. Sassy earned an 84, going High in Trial over Jack's score by 1 point! In the afternoon, Sandy Moore of Nevada judged the started dogs, 2 of 5 qualified. Those lucky dogs & handlers were Debbie & "Siena", Siena of Fusstanz & "Gordy", Fairway's Gordon v Nadelwald (who came in right under Jack with an 82). There were 5 PT runs under Sandy & all qualified. Sunday morning Sandy Moore judged advanced & intermediate. Jack had a beauuuuuuutiful run & scored an 87. He placed first in his class, went Reserve High in Trial overall & qualified for the first ever "von Stephanitz Award" for high scoring advanced dog. (The C course National event was not allowed to use the phrase 'Herding Victor' to denote the highest scoring advanced dog... so they came up with "von Stephanitz".) Carol called time on her run with Nomi & Jesse earned her first Herding CH points. Leica moved up to advanced & earned her first HX leg. Sassy earned her 2nd HI leg. In the afternoon Eunice judged the started dogs & Clary's Omega's Britta, Siena & Gordy finished their HS titles. Firethorn Lota Latte v Weiden PT went High in Trial with a score of 88. October 14 & 15 Jack is traveling to Massachusetts to compete for Herding CH points. I think these will be the last trials of the year. I believe there will be 9 advanced dogs competing for points at the Mass trials! That's a lotta very good herding GSDs! (And at least one Briard!) Jack & I have been working with our own sheep in Michigan to get ready for the trials. Our flock is young & learning the ropes so to speak, but apparently they get the job done! I'm pretty sure he's the first ever C course dog from Michigan ;-) Many tanked ewes ;-) to the people in charge of the keeping the facility & sheep tip-top in Washington, the C course national committee Sandy & Eunice & Laurie Diane & Jack "HX" ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2006.
