This commitment definitely works both ways! The breeder should be as concerned about the overall good health and temperament and their care of the puppy as any buyer is! ALL the health records on the puppy should be in the puppy kit for every single puppy.....along with reams of information on crate training, care, puppy behavior, training and character development and good and bad behavior...etc.....every question ever asked over the years. <G> I supply much more information to the pet owner than I do the show puppy buyer just because I know the show buyer is already experienced and already knows all of it. Don't ever think it is not a heartbreak for the breeder if any puppy has any kind of serious health issue. Any good breeder is first concerned with good genetic background on their bitch and the stud they choose because no one knows better than a breeder the price you pay...literally....if the litter is not sound in every way. NO ONE wants the heartbreak of a sick or unsound puppy and we surely don't want to break the heart of a puppy buyer who waited a long time for this joyful addition to their family. We all love the reports coming back to us over the years ....the ones proclaiming this GSD from you to be "the BEST, HEALTHIEST, SMARTEST GSD they EVER owned". <G> Carolyn marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.marhaven.com F On Behalf Of Theresa-GSD Stolz "scenecrest.geo@xxxxxxxxx" f To: marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx; showgsd-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Buyer question for the list The puppy buyer is also weary of the breeder selling the pup too. It goes both ways seller and buyer need to agree on the sale. My vet always told me to make sure the pup was healthy and sound of temperament. He told me to have proof from their vet the dam and sire had health clearance and the pup was vaccinated and wormed. The buyer is the one making the decision to buy the pup and it is their lifetime hours they will spend taking care of the little one. Puppies grow up and are a lifetime joy but can also be a heartbreak if the pup comes through unhealthy lines or temperament problems. The breeder has a responsibility to their pups to make sure they go to a sound home and will be a joy to own for their lifetime. It is not a easy task being a breeder as even with the best plans set forth and all the testing done you can end up with a disappointment. I sold my horses without a vet check for health and soundness. I asked buyers to call my vet with any questions they might have. I gave them the records of the horses care and the vets findings so there was never a question in the future. Horses need fence not barb wire and a barn to maintain them you would be surprised to hear buyers for them. LOL!!!
