Sometimes, I wish I wasn't so madly in love with this Breed...

Yesterday, my breeding partner received the email, inserted below, from a
couple pet people to whom she had given a lovely German bitch. A little while
ago, Kim received a call from the owners saying that their beautiful girl was
dead.

The vet said she died from a bleeding disorder and he though it was von
Willebrand's disease. "Ruffy" didn't exhibit signs of excessive bleeding
*during* the surgery, but bled out internally overnight.

If there's anyone who owns/owned a dog with a disorder such as von Willebrand's
and can tell us how the dog was diagnosed, we'd appreciate it very much. Ruffy
has kids and a brother out there. We need to find out if this is something in
the lines. Private posts are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Please read the email below to see how Ruffy enriched many lives. And, please
keep these folks in your thoughts. They are devastated...

Kim,

Today we had Ruffy spayed. Everything went well, but she's very tired. The
doctor said she should be back to normal in a couple of days.

We're sending you the Spay Certificate provided by the doctor.

They couldn't locate a microchip. Did we misunderstand you?? Was Ruffy
microchipped??

If so, could you forward the manufacturer's name and the number so that we can
have the info updated.

Other than that, she has proved to be an excellent family member. She adores
riding in the car and only uses a leash when we take her for long walks.
Before Ruffy our walks used to take approximately 30 minutes; now it could be
upwards to an hour because everyone wants to meet her.

One neighbor is a retired Washington D.C. police officer who worked in the
Canine Unit. Unfortunately, he is suffering from terminal lung cancer and is
quite ill. One day as we were walking past his house, we saw his wife and
asked her if he would be up to seeing Ruffy, she thought it would be a great
idea. As we entered the home we saw him in a chair looking very depressed. He
saw Ruffy and his eyes lit up and he said Ruffy was the most beautiful shepherd
he had ever seen. Ruffy walked over to him, kissed him and he had tears in his
eyes. Ruffy means a lot to a lot people. Thank goodness we found each other.

She is very popular in our neighborhood and several neighbors and 'Uncle
Ronnie' called tonight to see how she was doing.

Hope everything is well.

Joe and Reg
