Yes,  The Officers and Board Members are elected to do the best for the breed.
As has been mentioned before they were elected by the members that voted
and if you didn't I guess you should vote next time.  If the members do not
voice their opinion before the vote guess the Board just chose what they 
feel was best
for the GSD.  Long coats will be judged for breed standard by judges that will 
also
decide what dog they feel is best.
 
Top GSD's of present and past produced coats so this is not a new thing. So the 
Germans
now allow them to be shown as I believe in the past was the reason we 
considered them a fault.
