Not snipping because the whole thread is important.? Ed, I like your idea to
invite him to the Nationals.? But, he will NOT come.? He has an idea set in his
mind about show GSD's.? Why?? Because, as a breed, we are reactive rather than
proactive.? Folks will write to him and the Houston Chronicle to tell him he is
wrong.? And, he may change his mind and that is good but too little too late.?
The damage is done.? He already made a statement which many will or do
believe.?
What have we, as a breed, done to educate the public on our Breed?? Why are we
thought of as elitists and snobs?? The German breeders are out there
advertising in very public domains.? They are very inclusive of all GSD owners
(as long as they aren't Amer show lines) Is this beneath us to do the same
advertising or be inclusive of all GSD owners?? I know it has been discussed
before but I haven't seen any changes in how we reach JQP.? I still see clubs
dismiss the events in which pet owners can compete.? I still see outright
dismissiveness/rudeness to the pet owner who DARES to enter the Breed ring.?
What I don't see are welcoming arms to anyone who loves and wants to do
something with their GSD.? What I don't see (with a few exceptions) are people
mentoring, advising or helping folks, who love our breed, get more involved.?
Sorry, but I believe that we have brought this on ourselves.?
Yes, we should write him and the chonicle but we don't have the right to gell
all pissy when we have done nothing to dispell the belief that American line
GSD's are crippled.?
JMHO.? Flame away.? I know there are individuals that are out there trying to
make a difference and I applaud you that do this.? But, that vast majority do
nothing but talk and complain.? No action to make things better.

venues, herding, schutzhund, and obedience...lets buy him a seat and dinner at
the victory dinner...I'm dead serious........let him see this great dog in
action for himself....once you see him/her you're hooked....the best thing

It's important we are ALL involved in supporting the GSD and educating the
public that a correct topline is essential has a purpose and hip dysplasia
has no correlation with the topline of the dog.

which looks like the dog is cringing or has hip dysplasia. When I was a kid,
German Shepherds were a noble breed. Now they look like fearful curs.

is both tragic and obscene.
That the American Kennel Club mounted a campaign to block legislation in
Minnesota to improve standards and inspections of instate puppy mills, and
opposed a state legislative initiative in North Carolina to limit how long
dogs can be left tied up outdoors, reveals the true colors of this industry
