It is with great heartache that I have to report our Ava was put at peace last night by her owner Linda The Dr never gave us a straight answer on what did happen. Ava had been in an oxygen tent most of yesterday, surgery was put on the back burner due to her having difficulty breathing even in an oxygen tent. Linda and I decided to put her down sicne there seemed to be nothing the vets could do for her, and to have her suffer was just too much on us both. We did learn that it was NOT an undiagnosed heart mumor as the emergency vet had thought. The Specialist saw her yesterday, and w learned she blew the left valve in her heart possibly from a blood clot or a tumor on her heart. The specialist felt t it could NOT have been diagnosed/prevented prior to it happening, and the it is not likely to happen to her mom or her children. It is just "something bad that happens" and noone knows why. I wish I had a better answer, but that is all I know. Ava was loved by all, and even though she was only in Linda's life for 3 months, Linda says she would never had had it anyother way. Linda is a devoted cat rescue person, owning our Local NJ Starr Cat Rescue. Ava turned her from a devoted cat person to a now devoted Shepherd lover with her planning to add even more Shepehrds in her life despite this heartache. Over the past few months Linda and I would talk or see each other often with her telling me (and everyone around us)how much she loved Ava, and how she was the best dog that ever lived. Ava came into her home with her 15+ house cats, and made herslef at home from day 1. She was always at Linda's side, with her and her husband "fighting" over who would take Ava with them when her husband went to work. Linda even rescued a small dog recently just so Ava would ahve a "dog" to hang out with instead of just her cats while she waitined for my next litter to come so she could add another Shepherd to her life. Just 2 weeks ago, she told me of her plans to have Ava's portrait tatooed on her due to the love she had for her. She truly loved this dog, and it is heartbreaking to find such a wonderful home for Ava and to have this happen so soon after she left. Ava would never had left here if it was not for her and my girl Roxy had not getting along. Ava was truly the best dog ever, loving everyone and everything and for this to happen to her at only 5 /12 is devestating to all. The only peace we have is tha it happened so quickly and suffering was at a minimal. Ava truly had the BEST life with Linda, and her last months were happy and spoiled, and Linda and I would not have had it any other way.
