Well Evan, obviously I disagree with you. But I'd like to point out that there were several meetings where this was mentioned and discussed. I met with Nancy, Frank, Lew, & Bill to view the site and hotels in Philadelphia (just before Frank took over as President) and I know Nancy brought up the problem of the limited seating for this event. And just because somebody donates money to an event does not mean that they own that event and can call the shots on it. If you want to control the event I guess you do what those with the private parties do - pay for it all yourself and hold it where you are also in charge of paying for it - whether that be in the parking lot or whereever. Just because the club is for the members (and all those involved are working for the members and basically doing their best) does not mean that everything should be free for the members. That is the fastest way to totally deep-six the organization. Tish In a message dated 4/30/2013 1:10:11 P.M. If others want to have events the week of the National, there is no problem with that. However, if the parent club sponsors an event, it should be available for everyone. I know we limit the victory dinner due to the limits of seats, we limit the entry on herding, temperament tests, and other events. I see no problem with that. I don't even find fault in a cocktail party for dignitaries so we can impress them with our members, but I do think it should be planned to allow everyone who wants to attend, to be there. Understand. I commend our board, and admire what Nancy is doing to make this a big celebration. Not every event is available for everyone and I see no problem with that. It is the impressions that are important and as with my profession, the appearance is important. I know what Tish is saying, but I do feel the club is for us, by us and by us. We are the club, not those who expect anything. If you look at the cost of going to the national, the cost of seats, the victory dinner, the stalls, and everything else, it offends me to hear someone tell me I am asking for something without paying for it. I figured it out if I bring a dog to show. The cost to me is $7,000.00. I don't think expecting to be treated fairly is asking for something or asking for a free lunch. Also, I admit at times when I have announced, (not always), the club did give me tickets for a "free lunch". As "talent" maybe Flower Boy, Bob (The Voice of The National) Dresher and I should demand union fees, at least. So far, not being spit on seems to be enough. Evan L. It seems to me we have gotten to expect to get everything free these days. Somebody has to pay because as the saying goes "there's no such thing as a free lunch". ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2012.
