Just wanted to share this, in case it helps anyone else:
Dr. Richard Stolper is one of the longtime veterinarians recommended on
this list for the Valley -- including breeders/show people I've known for
many years.
I recently just took a bitch in for her hip xrays and met him.
I was really very impressed. He was exceptionally patient, compassionate,
deft in his handling, spent time as needed . . . able to obtain what we
needed w/o general anesthesia/sedative. Costs were very reasonable, low for
area.
This is a young girl with GSD breed rescue, unaccustomed (in contrast to my
dogs) to being handled all over, experiencing some significant pain. She
was affectionate and sweet with the vet, but became very reactive once the
more in depth examining began -- very guarded, flipping around, and did a
fair amount of screaming in fear. I appreciated that the vet did not become
irritated or impatient -- instead commenting that he could tell that she
was not aggressive, just afraid, sweet and very "forgiving" (kissing his
face all over after).
A bonus to visit a practice very supportive of (good) breeders & with staff
engaged in show activities (who chatted with me while I was waiting)!
