Thanks Sandy, I appreciate your response...Liz's post with the quote  from 
the Redbook really cleared it up for me...I have had a number of Redbooks  but 
I 
had not bought any recently and I couldn't remember its actual "stated"  
purpose; I guess what caught my eye was a post that came across as saying that  
the Redbook showed the "best producing" sires/dams; whereas in my opinion, the  
Redbook just was a listing of what was produced; by whom; and awards that they 
 had received; I certainly did not think that it was "supposed" to reflect  
whether what was produced was necessarily an indication of quality or a ranking 
 of "best producing".  However, I too, have always found it to be a good

Unless you look at the  number of breedings per winning (CH.) progeny, the ROM
does not really  indicate just how good of a producer the parents are. (esp. 
the  sires)
Many of the "top producers" have been bred hundreds of  times.   The redbook
is useful but does not always giv e a true  picture.  (I have all of them 
since the  early
80s)
