Here is what is published in the AKC Book, Rules Applying to Dog Shows
ammended to Jan 2006
SECTION 8. The American-bred Class shall be for
all dogs (except champions) six months of age and
over, whelped in the United States of America, by reason
of a mating which took place in the United States
of America.
Looks to me like Kathleen is right. both the breeding the whelping have to
have been in the US.A

Heard this from someone else who had a problem with the AKC on this
issue --
I'm sure if its wrong information, someone will be happy to correct me.
Not true. Must have been presented wrong. It is no different than a
Canadian bitch being bred to an American dog....you have to go to where the
dog is.
Wherever the litter is whelped is where you can enter the appropriate
am/can bred class. The only issue the AKC would have is if the dog is not
registered in the US, then you have to provide certified pedigree etc to
register
the litter. Had a few bitches years ago bred to one of my dogs while in
Canada, and they had no problems registering their litters.
