New York, NY - The AKC Humane Fund, Inc. is pleased to announce the  
creation of
he John Spurling, O.B.E. Scholarship Celebrating the Human-Canine  
Bond. Five
cholarships will be awarded annually to full-time students enrolled in  
courses
f study that advance responsible pet ownership. For more information

The scholarship is named in honor of John Spurling, O.B.E., Chairman  
of the
oard of PetPartners, Inc. PetPartners, which celebrates its 10th  
anniversary
his year, provides comprehensive and affordable pet health insurance  
to dog and
at owners in all 50 states, including the AKC Pet Healthcare Plan.
"We are happy to support the next generation of responsible pet owners  
by
ffering these scholarships in John's name," said AKC President and CEO  
Dennis
prung. "We thank him for all he has done through PetPartners to  
support the
ission of the American Kennel Club and the AKC Humane Fund."
The AKC Humane Fund works to promote the cause of responsible pet  
ownership
hrough a variety of grant programs. This new scholarship will provide  
funds for
tudents who are pursuing educational programs that include responsible  
pet
wnership in their curricula, including veterinary medicine, veterinary
echnology, physical therapy, animal care, animal behavior, grooming and
raining.
The Fund will award five scholarships annually, totaling $10,000,  
payable as
uition assistance to accredited institutions where students are  
enrolled in
ourses of study focusing on the care of pets.
