From my perspective during the time administering the IAC, I was caught
between a rock and hard place. After all, motions made by previous boards
unless brought up again by one of the positive voters, the original motion
maker moving to rescind their motion or some other such method of
overturning the motion, the IAC and the Internet Committee were held to the
rule that the 2007 Board imposed.
From July 2007 Board of Directors Minutes, under Internet Committee:
Helen (Gleason) moved, 2nd by Bart (Bartley), that prior to accepting an ad
for puppies or stud service on the internet, the person be required to sign
the Breeder's Code. Motion passed.
John Ayotte was not aware of this imposed implementation when he took over.
The only reason I knew about it was because I happened to have a
semi-photographic memory and when I read it, I thought "what a dumb idea"
because it severely hampers the ability of the website to generate income.
The IAC and the Internet Committees both agreed that there are several ways
to denote advertisers who have signed the Breeder's Code in a positive light
while not disenfranchising the remaining members of the club. One way which
was discussed amongst us was to either list the signers with an Asterisk, or
a small graphic signifying "Breeder's Code Signer" or having the Breeder's
Code Signers be listed first in their state followed by the non-signers.
This would allow all members the opportunity of using the site, and with the
new website which was previewed in January (that's another story), it would
allow for the copious numbers of contacts to reach members looking for
puppies and further put the advertising $$'s spent to good use for the
membership of the GSDCA.
I understand from John's report to the Board that this was to be suggested
at the last meeting. I am not aware what was decided.

The spirited discussions about the pros and cons of the Breeders Code have
been great, however since I originated the post I would still like my
questions answered. What I asked has nothing to do with the merit of the BC,
how it is or isn't written, or should it be re-written, is it pointless or
not pointless. My question is this: How could can the board rationalize
allowing advertising by ALL membership in one official publication and not
the other? Does this Board not realize that we have judges who have judged
our National, but now are not "qualified" or considered reputable enough to
advertise on the PC website because they have not signed the BC? Yet when I
go to the PC site I see at least one breeder advertising on it that many
have said is a back yard breeder, and I can verify this to be true as
well.So let's see judges who judge the National can't advertise, but back
yard breeders who have signed the BS can.Boy, that really protects the
breed! So
