You are right that in your example, the post bounces from the server that it
was not authorized to go to, which creates a HAIL of bouncing posts back to
OUR server. In addition, the replies of the people from the OTHER list are
contained in the post that comes back to OUR List - and vice versa, which
causes the posts of those people to be crossposted to other lists.
Example: You send a post to both lists. Joe Smith on Gerald's list (who is
not a Showgsd-l member) hits REPLY and sends his answer back to you and to
both lists. Joe's post bounced from our server back to Gerald's server, but
you get it. Then you REPLY again, and your reply goes to BOTH lists since
you are a member of both, and your REPLY contains JOE'S POST, which then
appears on Showgsd-l and Gerald's list.
This creates a mess, all the way around, for both lists and for the people
in the chain of posts. When it happens we ask people to stop and so does
Gerald. You can send your post to both lists if you want to, the problem is
avoided if you just send the post two times, once addressed here, once
addressed to Gerald's list. That way the replies go where they belong.
This is different than intentional forwarding of someone's post, either to
another list or to another person not on the list.

If you are a member of both list and the original post went to both list
when you hit reply all it will go to both list. This is not cross posting
since the original posting was to both. Many listers send their post to
both list.
I am on both list and get the same post many times..
I do believe that if you hit reply all on a post that is sent to both list
and you are not a member of one of those list, your post will bounce.
If I am wrong on this I am sure someone from one or both list will let me
know.
