These numbers are unofficial until I have time to review the data submitted.
Five parties. nine observers found 97 species. Highlights included Common
Merganser (2) and Merlin. Last year, this count yielded practically no
waterfowl, probably since the count was on a Monday following a hunting season
weekend. This year, with a Thursday count, we found 16 species. For the first
time in many years, Bald Eagle numbers were up. We tallied 26 today. Our
biggest misses included Wilson's Snipe, accipiters (1 accipiter sp. found),
Horned Lark, American Pipit, Savannah Sparrow, Brown-headed Cowbird and House
Finch. We found 1 House Wren, 4 Blue-headed Vireos, 3 Red-breasted Nuthatches
and 9 Pine Siskins. Thanks to those who helped.
