Hi,

IE and CSS issues can drive you crazy.

Microsoft has a number of pages devoted to CSS compatibility issues. Here are some links to what Microsoft has to say about how to address the problems.

This link is to the "HTML and CSS" section of the Internet Explorer Developer Center/Web Development section...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa155133.aspx

But there's more...

Here's another one buried in a subsection regarding Compatibility in Internet Explorer 5.5
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms531201(VS.85).aspx

And here's a Microsoft article on CSS Enhancements in IE 6
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb250395(VS.85).aspx

This one is buried under another section of the same general topic and deals with CSS Compatibility in IE 7.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb250496(VS.85).aspx

Buried in all this is the kind of information you'll need to figure out why floats are all screwed up in various versions of IE.

Other Misc Resources...

And, then, if you want to read more, I have a whole bookmark folder devoted to finding solutions to IE CSS issues, and here are a couple of the pretty good ones about the IE float/margin bug(s) (Not sure the collapse is referenced in these, but there's a double-margin bug and an indent issue now and then and these links may provide other links...):

http://www.positioniseverything.net/explorer/doubled-margin.html
http://www.positioniseverything.net/explorer/floatIndent.html

And finally (and I'll be quiet now), here's a very nice page of Resources (links to other lists, etc.) of CSS bugs and problems from the Web Standards Group.

http://webstandardsgroup.org/resourcecat/23

I got most of these from various Google searches I did as I ran into IE problems.

Hope this helps.

Dean...

You are experiencing the limitations of Internet Explorer.

Version 5.5, and 6 don't really support CSS well, if at all.

Version 7 does support it, though not completely.

Version 8 has more support for CSS but doesn't implement it completely either.
