Great catch, Renee. Thanks for flagging this change before we go to print.
And huge thanks to you too, Matt, for finishing up the dollar bill design!
It looks amazing! As a newbie to Next Day Flyers, I appreciate the order
specifications too.
Does this mean the hashtag is changing from #FreeThePBFunds to #FreePB (or
something that doesn't reference the funds)?
Assuming for a moment that the answer is "yes," here are some thoughts on
how we might tidy up the designs. Other ideas/clarifications/questions are
welcome!
- On the front of dollar bill design, change #FreeThePBFunds to #FreePB
(or something else that doesn't reference the funds)
- On the back of both designs: replace the header sentence "Mayor
Durkan: Release the funds for participatory budgeting!" with "Mayor Durkan:
Stop getting in the way of Participatory Budgeting!"
- Also - I really liked the "stamp out white supremacy" in the top right
corner of the dollar bill design. Maybe we could add that to the back of
the dove design if it's not too much trouble?
I am not skilled enough to know how to make the edits otherwise I would.
I'm on standby to get the order placed so let me know when they are
updated.

So we will need to do a quick edit of the postcard language and email and

There are two separate files to upload, one for the front & one for the
back.
Size: *4 x 6" * (note: I made it this size because it's the largest
which you can still use .36 cent postcard stamp with)
Front side: full color (you don't have a choice here with nextdayflyers)
Back side: *Black or Greyscale*
Paper Stock: *14 pt. Cardstock* is good
Coating: I'd go with either *High Gloss Front / Uncoated Back *or *Uncoated
Both Sides *("uncoated both sides" might look best with this design,
but it's a little more expensive. High gloss front will look good too. But
definitely make sure you have the back uncoated! This makes it easy to
write on with any kind of pen or pencil.)

Matt -- if you are able to get the dollar bill design to fit the same

that would be great! Renee is creating a 'week of action' doc with
instructions on where to download the graphics.
To give Henea more context - the postcards will also be part
of the #FreeThePBFunds 'Week of Action' starting 4/19:
MON - Call Jenny
TUES - Tweet Jenny
WED - Email
THURS - Postcards
FRI - March to Jenny's house with Black Action Coalition
For sake of communicating to the public about logistics:
• Ideally by Sunday or Monday we can confirm which businesses
are willing to keep stacks for pickup.
• Postcards can be distributed to businesses by Wednesday.
Does the above seem doable? If we need more time to distribute
physical postcards it's no problem, but it would affect the
language on the
Instagram posts. I hope to roll out a post by Sunday evening, and
another
related post on Thursday morning.
Would you all be into listing the businesses you plan to

Here's a summary
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KaYoGjeTLKQ0oq78fzCxoaYH4rux7_782KfaEJ97ojY/edit>
doc
with some of the outcomes of last night's meeting. It may be
kind of hard
to interpret, but here are the basics (others should chime in
with
amendments/additions/questions/etc):
- We are planning to create postcards that can be mailed
to the Mayor's Office asking that she release the funds for
participatory
budgeting now
- We're designing around two use cases: (1) folks are
handed/pick up a physical postcard, add a personal note and
mail it and (2)
folks print at home, attach it to a notecard or piece of
cardboard, add a
personal note and mail it
- Matt is leading design work around a dollar bill
centric theme (see page 3 here
<https://jamboard.google.com/d/1i7zDGMAyziXNdRxQC303lXBC--LVxgp2VHULcP2_7Ns/viewer?f=2>
)
- Britta is (I think?) leading design work around a
second design theme that features a dove
- Text for the back of the postcards (consistent across
both designs) is in this doc
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KaYoGjeTLKQ0oq78fzCxoaYH4rux7_782KfaEJ97ojY/edit>
- Once these are ready for printing, I'm planning to
submit for printing -- planning on 100-200 physical copies
(I'll front the
money and hopefully others can reimburse whatever they are
able).
- Sharon is going to help distribution to folks, but the
vision is that physical postcards would be distributed at
upcoming events
and dropped at coffee shops, etc. (e.g., The Station on
Beacon Hill)
We still need to decide:
- Plan for hosting the image for the "print at home" use
case
- Does anyone want to lead a third design?
- Other stuff?
Sharon, Renee, Peter, Matt and Britta -- anything I'm
missing?

Hi all,
Thank you for all your amazing ideas, and for
introducing these important long term considerations! A
few extra
thoughts come to mind:
• I wonder if the images we make for the PB postcard
campaign can also be formatted for Instagram.
• Brock, thank you for rallying around CB 119981 and
the important data points from the State of the Defund
event! Council is
unable to make any votes on the bill because SPD hasn't
responded to
requests made by the Consent Decree monitor. The Defend
The Defund group is
currently strategizing around this and there's definitely
a need for help
on the social campaign front! In case anyone in this
thread is interested
in being involved, there will be a 'new engagement'
meeting tomorrow
(Wednesday) at 7pm. Please see details below. :)
• *Longer term consideration* - Related to Matt &
Britt's bullet point on 'assignments': because there's a
natural overlap
between PB and Defend The Defund efforts, I see an
opportunity to parse out
which group takes on certain campaigns / calls-to-action
in order to make
the most of our collective labor. For example, during a
recent Defend
meeting we talked about creating a campaign that
highlights existing
community-led harm prevention efforts to illustrate how PB
money can be
spent. I wonder if campaigns like this can find a natural
home under PB
Creators. We can then cross-promote and boost content with
the orgs we've
been coordinating with, namely Decrim Seattle and Black
Action Coalition. I
acknowledge that tightening our coordination with the
Defend group also
assumes that we're interested in building a consistent
team who can work
together longer-term.
I apologize if this sounds overwhelming to folks not
already in both groups -- I'm personally fumbling through
how to be more
economical when engaging in overlapping efforts. I welcome
discussion, but
also understand if my last bullet point is better off
shelved!
Best,
Sharon

Hi everyone,
Working on PB postcards for a campaign to pressure the
city sounds like a great plan for Thursday!
I was talking with Britta today, and here are some
ideas / things to think about that came up in our
conversation.
Looking forward to seeing you all!
Matt
*Suggestion for Thursday's meeting:*
- 10 min: group brainstorm to devise one or two
(at most!) messages / slogans / central points for
everyone to focus on
- 30 min: break out into pairs to work on design
ideas (one person working with words, the other with
images)
- 10 min: back together to share work-in-progress
/ get feedback
- Homework: work up rough ideas into finished
artwork
Once we have some designs we like:
- Do we want to print copies & distribute?
- How do we get them to people who may mail them
in?
*Longer-term questions (not for this Thursday!):*
- Are we more interested in:
1. building resources / entry-points / events for
people who want to do a bit of creative PB support,
or
2. building a team who works together over a
longer-term on creative PB support?
- Do we want more concrete messaging guidance from
PB / Abolition movement leaders? (i.e. assignments?)
If yes, how do we
arrange this?
- Who is the audience for things we make?
- How do we get things out into community? (what
are the conduits?)
- Are there people we want to bring into this work?
- Once there is PB $$$ and BiPOC artists and
designers are being commissioned, what kind of support
can we offer that
would be genuinely useful?

I am looking forward to the meeting on the 15th.
Two quick thoughts for the agenda:
- On the Defund teach-in (happening right

related to the budget and
other things (e.g., SPD budget currently makes up
25% of the City's general
fund budget. Only 1.3% of SPD responses are for
violent crime, etc). It
made me think that one thing we could focus on
this week is
identifying/gathering useful data points and
talking through/creating some
infographics to illustrate them?
- I also think it might help if we focus
creation around drawing attention to/encouraging
action around specific
near term event (e.g., Council action on CB

Excited for other ideas and to catching up on
