All — I had a chat with Ed over the weekend. He claims he’s turning into a a
“cranky old man” and is looking for a way out of being the loaner scope
manager. The email below show’s a bit of Ed’s new found “cranky” . Can anyone
think of a good replacement for Ed?.

Hi Ed,
Apologies for any confusion or ignorance here. Absolutely no intent here to
bother you nor skirt any rules. I certainly don't want to get off on the
wrong foot.
But to be clear and precise, I only made the request for a delivery one time
(indeed by email and then to continue the conversation, at your request, by
text). I hope you can simply chalk this request up to ignorance. This is all
completely new to me and rather than pointing me to a link or document with
the rules for loaner scopes, Gene simply suggested I email you.
My most recent question I asked (which certainly was not a request). Was if
there is any alternative to a face-to-face meeting between us at TDS. You've
now clarified that other board members also have access to loaner scopes,
which answers that question.
Is there any sort of Calendar which will help me determine suitable times for
a meeting at TDS? I certainly don't want to rely on emails to make these
scheduling inquiries.
Thanks much,
Marshall

Marshall,
You have requested San Diego delivery of the loaner scope three times in
different formats. See below.
I will not deliver the loaner scope to San Diego. As described in the
responses (italics), such a practice is a huge burden upon me. I will
respond positively to good faith efforts by members to make a TDS transfer.
I am beginning to be concerned about your viability as a “trusted loanee.”
Please keep that in mind if you want to proceed with me.
Fortunately SDAA is a very large organization and others may be more
responsive to your request. Each of the board members have access to the TDS
storage shed. I have appended the president to the cc line for your ease
should you wish to purse alternative arrangements with someone else.
Respectfully submitted,
Ed Rumsey
Loaner Scope Chairperson

Hi Ed. Hope the visibility has been good. Is the only way to get a borrow
scope is by meeting you in person at TDS?
Second Request and Responses (via text):

Hi Ed, Marshall here. New member trying to arrange loaner scope. (8" Meade).
Any chance you can bring to scope to San Diego (a convenient location for you
obviously). I don't have plans to get out to TDS this weekend. Cheers.
Thursday 5:05 PM
Marshall,
That is not going to work for me. Vehicle is full. Not willing to leave my
stuff up here to bring down the loaner.
We will have to find a time at TDS that works for both of us.
Regards, Ed
Thursday 6:07 PM:
No problem. That is the reason the procedures specify TDS.
In the past I had less gear and dedicated a third of the garage to loaner
scopes. Can't do that anymore. I should probably amend the procedures to
specify TDS only.
My plans have extended through Sunday morning. If that fits your schedule -
text.

Hi Ed,
Thanks for all of the information. Can the scope leave the site? I was
planning some more urban (polluted 😉) viewing initially.
Further to that inquiry, perhaps I could convince you to bring the scope back
to the San Diego area, assuming you live in the area. I could meet you at any
convenient local spot to pick it up.
Regardless, I don't think I can make it out to TDS before Sat morning.
Regards,
Marshall
