Howard,
Have you completed the task of replacing your throttle controls and the cables?
I should be replacing mine in the next month.
Please enlighten me as to what to expect.
Ted

Ted,
Thank you. That does help. Getting the SL3 model Teleflex was a bit of a
struggle, but it is on its way to my service shop. I’ll let you know how the
change over goes in about two weeks. I’ll be away for that time and the
further away I am from the boat and the mechanics the better for both of us!

Howard,
I will be replacing our throttle controls this Fall. I had asked Graeme
Nolan, at Seawind, what controls they were now installing on new boats since
the old Teleflex 700TD is no longer available. Here is his response.
"The top mount Teleflex control we now use is model MT-3 available from Bob
Litter Agencies (9648 6606). It uses the same control cables but mounting
cut-out is different to the 700TD. You will need to have an adapter cut-out
made up of wood (Teak from Caporns, Brookvale) or some other material. Kind
Regards, Graeme"
I am hoping that my cables are in good shape. But being 9 years old....So, I
am not able to help you with your question about cable length, but fortunately
we have two sets. You can pull one and have it in hand to find the proper
replacement. I was told by Teleflex that both the 700TD and the newer MT-3
accept the same cable end. I may be writing you in a few months to ask how
this project came out if my cables do indeed need replacing.
I have had my control box opened up, but not taken off. It appears pretty
straight forward. I don't know what the mechanic means by glue.
Hope this has helped some.

Hello all,
I have a 1000 (#90) and must replace the controller and cables. The
controller is easy, but without pulling out all of the cables the shop cannot
determine which cables are used and at what lengths. I’d rather have the
cables in hand before they begin work. Can any tell me what length and which
model cables are used. The controller is a Teleflex sl3 top mounted dual
regular box. Has anyone had the box and/or cable replaced? Was it a difficult
job? The mechanic is telling me that the box is glued in place and will be
completely lost in removal.
Thanks for the help.

Howard Lieberman
