I think we need to be very careful here.  I agree that having links creates
the appearance that the club is endorsing, approving, or just thinks the
program is pretty cool.  If this (requests for outgoing links) were to
become popular, we need some way to evaluate where we're pointing.  If for
no other reason than to prevent some kind of mischief or worse.

What I'm concerned about is someone asking us to put a link on our page for
some astronomy-related software that could contain some kind of spyware,
denial-of-service-helper or worse.

If the SAC database is, in fact, becoming the "defacto standard," web guests
could be drawn to our site because of the database.  I wouldn't want us to
be the vehicle by which someone's computer is damaged (in a software sense.)

I think we at least need some kind of policy regarding off-site links we put
on our pages.  Even if that policy is just that we're only going to put
links to pages of people we know.
