[sac-board] Discovery Telescope and Astro League?

I have heard nothing from anyone on the proposed Discovery Telescope tour
(except Mitch and Lori Prause). Is this a non-issue then? I need to get a
response back to Lowell about our intentions.

Also, the Astronomical League has clarified their membership policy. A club
may become a League affiliate for $10 plus $7.50 per member, with a 5-member
minimum. For example, if SAC became an affiliate, it would cost the club $10
plus $7.50 x 5 = $47.50. The five members who are enrolled with the League
would then qualify to earn League observing club awards as part of their
membership. Non-members would have to become members-at-large at $30 a year
dues.

However, if we had people who wanted to earn AL awards, they could be
enrolled as the five minimum, and if more wanted to do the awards, they
could then join the League at $7.50 per member.

Example: We affiliate for $37.50 and enroll five people as affiliates: Joe,
Tom, Darrell, Jimmy, and Rick. Those five could work towards observing
awards as part of their dues. If later Bill and Mike wanted to pursue
awards, they could enroll as affiliates and SAC would cough up $7.50 for
each of them.

Obviously, SAC would have to state that any member who wanted to be a League
affiliate would need to add $7.50 to their annual dues.

Do we want to discuss this, perhaps bringing it up at a future meeting? In
the past, we were under the impression that SAC would have to cough up $7.50
for all 85 members, but that is not the case as it was explained to me.
