As a matter of interest, I came across this several years back when indexing a
first cousin whom I knew personally. His family called him Ron which is what
he was listed as in the death notice when I know for certain he was Ronald.
(Indexed as published)
If one looks for him on Ryerson as Ronald (eg. SMITH) it comes up no entry.
The trick when searching does not give a match is to put the Surname (eg.
SMITH) only then scan through the given names which appear in alphabetical
order.

Strictly speaking, no - tempting as it is. But you could drop an email to John
about it and let him decide whether to put an annotation on the first one :)

Subject: [ryerson_index] Entering proper given name where nickname used
Hello
I have a notice on one day, let's say Stevie SMITH. I know from the next day's
notices that his real name is/was Steven SMITH.
"Stevie" wouldn't be picked by a search for Steve. Can I enter the Steven as
additional information? And, if I can, do I enter it as:
Name: SMITH, Stevie [Steven]
or
Name: SMITH, Stevie
...
Prev name 1: SMITH, Steven
Thanks
Craig
