We were a small, but mighty, crowd today!
Michelle from Senator Udall's office came down and informed us that the hearing
re: Judge Kavanaugh has been set for September 4th, meaning this guy could be
confirmed by the end of September. She encouraged us to keep calling and to
specifically call for the delay of the hearing until the Judge's documents are
released which might not happen until the end of October. That was the focus of
our calls today. (We made 39 calls!) I'm attaching the SCOTUS call sheet.
Please call EVERY day and ask that they delay the hearing until we have an
opportunity to review his documents. An open, transparent process is the
cornerstone of any democracy!
Sen. Grassley's office is pushing back. The Senator feels it is a waste of
taxpayer money. Since when does that matter? Remind him how much was spent on
the Benghazi hearings, The cost of reviewing these documents should not be a
deciding factor in something as important as this.
Michelle also shared that the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service was very
impressed with the outpouring of support from Albuquerque when they asked for
donations for the immigrant families they thought were coming to Albuquerque.
They were overwhelmed with support! Our little city donated more than most and
the DC director made specific reference to Sen. Udall about it. That's the good
news. The bad news is that ICE only brought 80 people and then blamed Congress
for the miscommunication.
