Hi Jeff -

Why would you assume much coating is gone? How can you judge from the
image? Of the lenses I've seen with this appearance, there was no
visible difference between their performance and those of Planars of
more normal appearance...

A lens in any condition can be coated/recoated, though the 80/2.8
Planars are difficult because of the compound front element. I would
not recoat such a Planar, firstly because there is no need, and
secondly, because the coating services that I am aware of cannot match
the spectral performance of the original coating...
