   van Stelton. He had the equipment to re-center and re-cement lenses and I think to do single layer coating.
   The Tessar is a sort of generic design. Zeiss made many variations. I learned a lot about Tessars from Kats Ikeda who is a lens designer. Like any other design there were bad ones both due to errors in calculation and poor QC. The Kodak Ektars used on Speed Graphics and similar folding cameras, are Tessar type lenses of exceptional performance.
   Note that comparisons in cameras without direct focusing can be misleading because you are really comparing the focus means as much as the lens. Note that Tessars have just a little focus shift so the sharpest focus as indicated by the ground glass may not be coincident with the sharpest focus of the lens when wide open, or when stopped down a little depending on how it was adjusted.
