van Stelton. He had the equipment to re-center and re-cement
lenses and I think to do single layer coating.
The Tessar is a sort of generic design. Zeiss made many
variations. I learned a lot about Tessars from Kats Ikeda who is
a lens designer. Like any other design there were bad ones both
due to errors in calculation and poor QC. The Kodak Ektars used
on Speed Graphics and similar folding cameras, are Tessar type
lenses of exceptional performance.
Note that comparisons in cameras without direct focusing can
be misleading because you are really comparing the focus means as
much as the lens. Note that Tessars have just a little focus
shift so the sharpest focus as indicated by the ground glass may
not be coincident with the sharpest focus of the lens when wide
open, or when stopped down a little depending on how it was
adjusted.

I was given one with separation and John Van Skelton redid it and
serviced the shutter for $150, Remember him?

These look very good. What film did you use? My experience with Rollei Tessars
has been with T’s, three of them, and they have all been very good.

Tessars were made in the 100 of thousands. They could get beat up on their way.
When an Ikoflex from a camera repairman I use turned up ... I gave it a shot ...
First roll through.
