Marc, I believe it uses Compact Flash cards for storage - I would recommend you
buy a card reader for a few dollars, use that to get your pictures onto your
PC, and forget all about the software.

Subject: [rollei_list] VERY OT: For PC Computer Gurus Only

I have an antiquated, in the grand scheme of
things, Rollei (on-topic!) d41 digital
camera. The software for this only afforded a
really dodgey connection to my computer when I
was using Windows 98SE: I would have to do
repetitive reboots with the camera turned on to
get a response. I recently upgraded to Windows
XP Professional, and cannot make a connection of
any sort. When I access the d41 program, I am
told that the camera cannot be found. When I
reboot, I am told that I need to install a mystic
driver for some "USB host to host
bridge". Checking out the Internet reveals that
this is a COMMON problem but one which divides
into two universes: computer gurus do not find
this a problem and laugh at the rest of us who
are lost in the outer darkness, so that we have a
REAL split here. One guys suggests running
REGEDIT and eliminating the entire ENUM tree
which apparently does away with all drivers, and
then rebooting, but this both seems a bit drastic
to me and also leaves me more than a bit queasy,
as I really do NOT like to play about with the
registry. Another guy suggested using USB 2.0
drivers but did not seem able to explain why this would help the problem.

I have updated my XP completely. I have checked
out the Microsoft and Genesis and Intel sites to no avail.

I am operating a four-year-old Pentium 4 with 512
of high memory, and an 850 family Intel CHIPSET, if that helps at all.

Any thoughts, happy campers, as we draw into
close conversation over the fire and eat those
last wienies of the summer as Autumn draws near.

Mayhaps I ought to just toss the camera into the
nearest public reservoir and buy me a new camera,
maybe one of those Panasonics with the "Leica"
Vario-Elmarit lenses or perhaps a Sony with a true Carl Zeiss lens. Hmm.

Marc
