Anyone who puts in a bid 60 seconds prior to the auction closing isn't sniping; they're asking - begging - to be sniped in the final few seconds of an auction. Unless, of course, their bid is the winning one anyway. Anyone who submits their highest bid well in advance of an auction close is likely to pay more for the item than if they bid the same amount in the final few seconds. Why? Because it's an invitation for someone to submit gradually higher bids in an effort to find your high bid. I see it often. I've won an auction by one penny and a recent one by 85 cents. Whether you agree with sniping or not, it's a fact of life on ebay. Another fact about ebay is that the bargains and the better quality cameras and lenses are getting harder to find and more expensive when they do appear..... just as Marc has said. I don't ebay much any more because I have more than I need and there's very little I want.
