I think it happens because that tiny plate received less paint than other
camera parts like the camera front. Your sample in Flickr also shows
silver/white and black paint traces in the nameplate "SL 66" clearly. My
camera "SL 66" nameplate has a good black paint layer yet, however the
letters and numbers paint look a bit weak.

I don't know about your camera crank, perhaps someone assembled some parts

It is not a very important question, but I have curiosity, have you seen
that different nameplate? Besides, in my camera the crank opens backwards
before turning it, contrary to the rest that open forwards. No importance
too.
