It is dedicated to a Wide Angle lens and then to avoid vignetting.
Sky graduated filters like the used with the Rollei filter holder need
to work parallel to the lens but keeping certain distance to produce
the expected effect, it's the reason the filter holder is fitted in
the lens hood, I never perceived flare using this filter, the lens
hood covers the same area with or without the filter.
