Hi Don,

A DVD played on a computer should work anywhere in the world, regardless of format. If you made the discs yourself, I assume you didn't put a region code in it (that would be a silly thing to do :-).

It should play on most set-top players as well, and pretty much all modern (last 15-20 year) TVs sold in Europe are dual format (will sync to both NTSC and PAL signal). Actually that applies to most VHS players as well.

I don't know how you've made the DVD. I use iDVD (Apple Mac OS X program) to make DVD's of my son, and everyone I've sent them to (Europe, USA, Brasil) has been able to watch them without any problems.

Cheers,
Thor

Very sorry to use this forum for a non-Rollei problem, but I need help regarding European TV/DVD standards.

I have a friend who is writing a children's book and she has produced some 69 pictures of her life growing up in Italy and moving to the U.S., and her change as she grew up. Her dad eventually became Musical Director of MGM and won an Oscar for scoring the Wizard of Oz so she has lots of contacts in Hollywood but also in Europe.

Now for the problem. I have made Video CD's, DVDs. and regular self-playing computer CD's for her to send to her friends and advisors. They all play well here, both on computers and DVD players, however she reports that the DVDs don't play in Europe. I think I have the capability to make a PAL DVD- Are DVD's not universal, other than the region code or should I try a PAL version.

Thanks,
