A good sample about excellent and superb photographs taken in 1953 with a
Rolleiflex Tessar, a Pre-war Contax II with a standard Sonnar and a 135mm
and a Retina Tessar is the book "Alfred Gregory's Everest" by the 1953
Everest expedition official photographer Alfred Gregory., only Hillary and
Tenzig and the peak first assault couple climbed higher than him. This big
format book is plenty of beautiful B&W and color photographs taken -some of
them- under the worst climatic conditions.

however glare is part of the charm for this kind of backlits and the reason
some people liked it in Flickr; the lens produced good contrast and
sharpness for some areas. The subtropical sun itself in the picture is a
severe test even for a current nanocoated lens from the digital era., These
are old lenses, in general we don't know their life along decades and
differences are more from the current condition than from design and
optical treatment, I can see excellent images from these lenses in books
printed at the time, I think they need a bit of tolerance today.

I bought a pretty rare lens "Carl Zeiss Jena Nr 3006362" T coated eight
years ago and I had never used it. It's part of one of the firsts T coated
lenses batches made at Carl Zeiss Jena after the factory destruction during
the war, in March 1947; the manufacturing had something to do with Soviet
technicians training to manufacture the Contax camera as Kiev in the Soviet
Union, but I don't recall details.
Yesterday I put this lens on the Contax II 1937 loaded with an outdated
Ilford Delta I kept in the freezer and took some photographs, developing
the film with the Romek PQ7:
