There is a lot of truth to this, but the history of this loosy-goosy usage
of the name goes back to the 50s and our cameras... The 5 element Planar,
well, ain't no Planar...
Interestingly, the Planar lens on the new Zeiss-Ikon is being heralded as a
6-in-4 return to symmetry:
