Sam 20 years ago Kodak, who invented digital imaging and the digital
camera, decided it was a film and paper company and not an imaging company.
It abandoned it's pioneering and category-leading development of
professional digital cameras.

In contrast, Canon made the opposite decision and is doing very well as an
imaging company.

Film and paper's decline was inevitable and would always have been a drag
on a public company. Whether a heathy Kodak would have maintained the
product line for brand purposes is not knowable...
