I also fall into the plain wrong category. In fact I would recommend
NOT to put the film in the chamber with the band on as I find sometimes
the paper does not come away cleanly, like the roll of Rollei CR200 I
loaded yesterday where the paper band split into 2 at the glue point.

I have also learnt it that way from my father but really, it is plain
wrong (and it is also not how the manual recommends it). Putting the
roll into the chamber *before* breaking the seal (and removing it) is
easier and much safer.
