Hi Jan:
Good images, nice composition and excellent scanning process,
they show what you want to show, the Sonnar 2,8/40 lens sharpness, despite
the fact that the images on the Web are not the appropriate and fair means
to assess this aspect definitively. Good work!

Hi Daniel & All,
I finally got around to digging out some 24 year old negatives taken with
the Rollei 35S I owned at the time. Here are the results and I hope you
agree they are plenty sharp and testify to the quality of the Sonnar, if
you make some allowances for scanner quality and deterioration of film. I
had to do quite a bit of spotting/retouching.

Maybe I will find some transparencies also taken with the 35S at the time.

I felt a little lousy bad-mouthing the Tessar on the Rollei 35 so I ran
another roll through it this week. Most of the shots kept to f11.
I did use an external Voightländer rangefinder (intended for a folder), so
I didn't guestimate focus.
I gave an extreme test. 1/30 @ f4.0 at pretty close focus.
I'll take back my reservations. It is still dubious in the corners (don't
see it here), but it can be made to work very, very nicely.
