I finally got around to digging out some 24 year old negatives taken with the
Rollei 35S I owned at the time. Here are the results and I hope you agree they
are plenty sharp and testify to the quality of the Sonnar, if you make some
allowances for scanner quality and deterioration of film. I had to do quite a
bit of spotting/retouching.

I felt a little lousy bad-mouthing the Tessar on the Rollei 35 so I ran
another roll through it this week. Most of the shots kept to f11.
I did use an external Voightländer rangefinder (intended for a folder), so I
didn't guestimate focus.
I gave an extreme test. 1/30 @ f4.0 at pretty close focus.
I'll take back my reservations. It is still dubious in the corners (don't see
it here), but it can be made to work very, very nicely.
