Ref arrangement for "How Great Thou Art"...I have found that this gem, and
some other masterpieces, can stand on their own without accompaniment or
arrangement...just play the melody a cappella, using a few single stops as
solos...try opening phrase on French Horn, then principal or diapason, then
soft trumpet...try last line of chorus on sweet 4' flute with trem...don't
think like an organist, think like a string or horn player...that sound you
hear is your audience really listening to the music, to the sound...the
melody takes on its own life and glides across the room into their hearts
and minds. The player and the instrument become subservient to the music,
the medium is transcended by the message.
