Do not get the pretty fake wood squares, they scratch easily.
I have full 2 X 4 wood framing, 16 inches on center, with cross ties, 3/4
inch plywood surface, mahogany underlay, and 3/4 inch tongue and groove oak
strips.
Even though it's over a full cellar, I don't worry about the weight.
And I found out why they made those old warships out of oak. Wears better
than iron.
You'd be amazed at the beating that oak can take without really showing any
damage.
It might be thicker than another floor, making a doorway bump, if you don't
do the whole house.

I personally would install hard wood. The density of the product would be
great to improve the overall sound in the rooms. Bass would be better highs
would be more transparent. Long term the wood looks nicer, lasts and wears
better. Moving the organ, remember you can do a lot to reduce the weight.
Pedals detach, pull the roll top out take the top lid off, remove the back.
This will all help, just remember if you are doing this yourself and have
external speakers, go to the hardware store, go to the electrical section
and ask for a number role. Mark each terminal with a number and the wire
with that corresponding number so you reconnect correctly. Call some big
friends over, get a 4 wheel movers dolly. Have two guys toe the left side
of the organ while the other two lift the right side up, place the dolly in
the center of the organ and as you bring it down on the dolly get someone to
balance the keyboard cause it will want to tip toward the keyboard side.
China Cabinet, your on your own! :-)

Subject: [rodgersorganusers] Question about flooring
A change of subject here...
We are in the process of deciding what sort of flooring to put in the room
that houses our Rodgers organ...living/dining room area...We are thinking
hardwood, but also considering tile. Right now we have wall to wall carpet,
which I know deadens sound. What do you think? I like the permanence of
tile, but we haven't come to a conclusion yet.
Then, the next big thing will be how on earth to move it for doing the work
(along with an equally heavy and large china closet).
