Thanks to Keith Zimmerman for his essay. His feelings are much in line = with mine. In brings to mind the Saint-Saens Symphony No. 3.=20 In this symphony the organ takes an accompaniment and background role in = the score. Yes, there are a couple of great, grand chords, but mainly the = organ serves as under-current in the background. To my ears, the result is = very effective. So within this symphony, the organ stands prominent in a few places but is = playing a subservient but important part most of the time. That's not at = all bad, as it elegantly serves the whole. By the way, though commonly called the "Organ Symphony", this has always = seemed a misnomer to me. The organist rather loafs along, and the dear, = dual pianists work their fingers to the bone, at times. Best regards, Charlie - May all your bloopers be grace notes this hoiliday season!
