Awhile ago I went on a rampage, frustrated with the inability of the PR-300 to consistently play midi files created using computer sequencing software. I would create a file using Cakewalk. It would play. I would create another one and it wouldn't. I would use MIDIGRAPHY. Sometimes they would play, often not. As I said, I went on a rampage. Though it embarrasses me to tell this, I eventually was guided to ask Chris Howard, a Rodgers Product Specialist at the time, for MIDI help with this issue. Not getting the help I expected and needed, I was rude. Very rude. Very, very rude. If Chris Howard sees this, I ask his forgiveness. Anyhow, Clay Baker, recent member to the list, came up against the same limitation and instead of getting rude, he got in gear. While this was posted when it came up, I am repeating it because it is an issue that all who wish to create music for the PR-300 need to know. When you create a graphic to use on the Internet, you need only set it up for a resolution of 72 dpi....dots per something-or-other. With printers. usually 300 dpi creates a nice file, a distinction wasted on our monitors. For really crisp printing you might use a 1200 dpi printer, which we do here at Frog Music Press. More dots, cleaner look. The PR-300 also works on a dpi sort of a scale. MIDI files created outside of the PR-300 should be set to reflect 192 ticks per quarter note. Usually the preferences settings will be the place to find and set this on your computer sequencing software. The heading in the PR-300 manual reads: Resolution: 120 TPQN (ticks per quarter note) Clay, thank you for bringing this to light. -- noel jones, aago athens, tennessee, usa 423 887-7594 ------------------------------- frog music press, publishing MIDI music moderator, rodgers organ users group at www.frogmusic.com Soon to be published for the Rodgers Organ: Sommer Sonaten für Orgel - Summer Sonatas for Organ and MIDI Orchestra! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To unsubscribe or change mail delivery (digest, vacation) go to www.frogmusic.com/rodgersmem.html
